Itinerary from Cluj-Napoca:
Day 1. Start in Cluj-Napoca. Once arrived in Sighetu Marmației, visit the Memorial of the Victims of Communism and the food market. Optionally: see the Elie Wiesel Memorial House and/or the Village Museum. Then, visit the Merry Cemetery of Săpânța, meet a painted cross maker (or a weaver), and see Peri Monastery (the tallest wooden church in the world). Overnight in Breb.
Day 2. Visit Bârsana Monastery, a wood carving workshop, and then, on Iza Valley, meet a very skilled plant-dyed rug weaver (a UNESCO intangible heritage), see a saltwater spring, and visit a pottery workshop and a traditional old wooden house with a dowry room, still inhabited today. Overnight in Breb.
Day 3. On Cosău Valley, meet a lovely self-sufficient farmer family and see a medieval wooden church, virtually unknown. Then, watch the unique water mills, whirlpool, and alcohol distillery, still operating for community needs and run by the same family for hundreds of years. At the end, see an optical illusion near Budești, and go to Breb, the best-known Maramureș village, where you will meet several local inhabitants. Finish the trip in Cluj-Napoca.
